About

YouTube owns the video. Playback owns the moment.

Most of what makes a video worth talking about happens in a few seconds. A release, a foot on a line, a pause before an answer. Video players are built for watching things all the way through, which is exactly the wrong tool for pointing at one of those seconds.

Playback is built for the other job. You paste a link, mark where the moment starts and ends, and share a page that opens on it, looping, at whatever speed makes it readable.

What you can do with a Playback

  • Step through it a frame at a time, or shuttle with J, K and L.
  • Slow it down, or let it ease down automatically where people reacted.
  • React at an exact instant and see where everyone else reacted on the timeline.
  • Compare two to four moments aligned on the same instant.
  • Discuss it in threads anchored to that moment.

What we never do

We don’t host, copy or re-stream video. Every Playback plays through the official player of the site the video lives on, and we don’t draw over or alter that player. If a video is removed at its source, the Playback stops working with it.

The domain

playback.tv was previously used by an unrelated company that shut down in 2025. What happened to the old links.
